Rate differentials: the gap between two countries' interest rates often matters more to a currency pair than either rate in isolation.
Priced-in expectations: markets frequently move ahead of an actual rate decision based on anticipated outcomes, so the reaction on the day can depend on how the decision compares with what was already expected.
Statement language: the tone of an accompanying statement or press conference can move markets as much as the rate decision itself.

Because so much of the reaction depends on expectations rather than the headline number, interest rate trading requires understanding market positioning beforehand, not just the underlying theory.
