Short answer

Pivot points are a set of horizontal levels calculated from the prior period's high, low, and close, commonly used by intraday traders as reference points for potential support and resistance during the current session. A central pivot level is calculated first, with additional support and resistance levels (often labeled S1, S2, R1, R2, and so on) derived from it using fixed formulas.

How Pivot Levels Work

A central pivot level is calculated first, with additional support and resistance levels (often labeled S1, S2, R1, R2, and so on) derived from it using fixed formulas. These levels are recalculated at the start of each new period, typically daily, based only on the prior period's data.
