Commodity Channel Index Basics
A 1-minute lesson from the MarketPro academy, one of 22 in trading indicators.
The Commodity Channel Index (CCI) measures how far current price has deviated from its statistical average over a chosen period, originally designed for commodities but now applied broadly across markets including currencies and indices. Unlike RSI or stochastic, CCI is not bound to a fixed 0-100 range — it can swing well beyond +100 or -100 during strong moves.

How CCI Is Interpreted
Unlike RSI or stochastic, CCI is not bound to a fixed 0-100 range — it can swing well beyond +100 or -100 during strong moves. Readings above +100 are often read as a strong bullish move, and below -100 as a strong bearish move, with values near zero suggesting price is close to its recent statistical average.
