Symmetrical Triangle Pattern
A 1-minute lesson from the MarketPro academy, one of 22 in chart patterns.
A symmetrical triangle forms when a series of lower highs and higher lows converge toward a point, reflecting a period of contracting volatility as buyers and sellers reach a temporary equilibrium. Unlike ascending or descending triangles, neither boundary line is flat; both slope toward each other, which means the pattern gives less directional bias on its own and is often treated as a pause within the prevailing trend rather than a strong reversal or continuation signal by itself.
