Short answer

Confirmation bias is the tendency to notice information that supports what you already believe about a trade, while overlooking signals that contradict it. It quietly distorts analysis long before a trade is ever placed.

How It Shows Up On The Chart

Once a trader forms an opinion — say, that a currency pair is about to rise — it becomes easy to spot every bullish candle, supportive headline, or indicator reading that agrees, while dismissing bearish signals as "noise" or exceptions. The chart has not changed; the lens viewing it has.

  • Searching for a second or third indicator only after the first one confirms a desired outcome
  • Reading neutral news as bullish or bearish depending on an existing position
  • Closing analysis early once a supporting signal appears, instead of checking for opposing ones
