Using Journal Data To Refine Position Sizing
A 1-minute lesson from the MarketPro academy, one of 14 in trade journaling and review.
Position sizing decisions are often made once, at the start of a trading approach, and rarely revisited. A journal that tracks risk per trade alongside outcomes gives you the data needed to reassess whether your sizing actually matches your strategy's real behavior.
Position sizing decisions are often made once, at the start of a trading approach, and rarely revisited. A journal that tracks risk per trade alongside outcomes gives you the data needed to reassess whether your sizing actually matches your strategy's real behavior.
Two figures from your journal are especially useful here: the typical size of your losing streaks (how many losses in a row have you actually experienced) and the variability of trade outcomes (how much do results swing from trade to trade). Position sizing that looked reasonable in theory can feel very different once you've lived through a real losing streak recorded in your own data.
