Ichimoku Cloud: A First Look
A 1-minute lesson from the MarketPro academy, one of 22 in trading indicators.
The Ichimoku Cloud is a multi-part indicator designed to show trend direction, momentum, and potential support/resistance areas all at once, built from several moving averages of price rather than closing prices alone. The "cloud" itself (formed by two plotted lines) represents a projected zone of potential support or resistance.

The Main Components
The "cloud" itself (formed by two plotted lines) represents a projected zone of potential support or resistance. Price trading above the cloud is generally read as a bullish context; below it, bearish; and inside it, uncertain or transitional. Two additional lines — a faster and a slower average — behave similarly to a moving average crossover system, with crossovers used as potential trend-shift signals.
