Trend Following Fundamentals
A 1-minute lesson from the MarketPro academy, one of 24 in trading strategies.
Trend following is a strategy built on a simple observation: markets often move in extended directional runs, and profits can come from identifying a trend early and staying with it rather than trying to predict reversals. Trend following tends to perform well during sustained directional moves but can produce a series of small losses during choppy, range-bound conditions, since price may repeatedly trigger entries and then reverse.

Core Principles
- Identifying direction using tools such as higher highs and higher lows, or a rising/falling moving average
- Entering in the direction of the established trend rather than against it
- Using trailing stops or structure-based exits to stay in a trend as long as it continues
- Accepting smaller, more frequent losses in exchange for occasional larger gains when a trend runs
