Common Weighting Methods
- Market-cap weighted — larger companies by total market value have a proportionally larger effect on the index's movement.
- Price weighted — companies with higher individual share prices have more influence, regardless of overall company size.
- Equal weighted — every constituent has the same influence on the index, regardless of size or price.
