Diversification Across Currency Pairs
A 1-minute lesson from the MarketPro academy, one of 22 in risk management.
Diversification means spreading exposure across different instruments so that no single outcome dominates overall results. In forex this is less straightforward than it sounds, since every pair involves currencies tied to broader economic forces.

Why Forex Diversification Is Tricky
Because most currency pairs share at least one currency with several others, positions that look separate on the surface can actually move together. True diversification requires looking at what is really driving each position, not just the instrument names.
- Pairs sharing a currency often move in tandem to some degree
- Diversifying across different currency regions can reduce (not eliminate) overlap
- Combining forex exposure with entirely different asset classes is another way some traders diversify
