Parabolic SAR (stop and reverse) plots a series of dots above or below price that shift position as a trend develops, originally designed as a mechanical tool for trailing a stop loss behind an ongoing trend. When a market is trending upward, the dots sit below price and gradually accelerate closer to it as the trend continues.

How The Dots Behave
When a market is trending upward, the dots sit below price and gradually accelerate closer to it as the trend continues. When price crosses through the dots, they flip to the opposite side, signaling a potential trend reversal. The acceleration factor built into the calculation means the dots tighten in more quickly the longer a trend persists, which is meant to help lock in progress as a trend matures.
