Defining Your Trading Edge
A 1-minute lesson from the MarketPro academy, one of 14 in building a trading plan.
A trading edge is a specific, repeatable reason to expect a favorable outcome over many trades — not a guarantee on any single trade, but a statistical tilt in your favor when applied consistently. Defining your edge clearly is the starting point of any trading plan.

An edge needs to be specific enough to test and repeat. "I trade breakouts" is vague; "I enter when price closes beyond a well-tested resistance level on above-average volume, with a stop below the breakout candle" is specific enough to evaluate objectively across many instances.
